Many of these courses also fulfill compulsory credit requirements for the diploma.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Students who fulfill these requirements may be granted a\u00a0<u>Certificate of Concentration in Extended French<\/u>. Note that this is not a \u201cbilingual certificate\u201d. A bilingual certificate may be earned through participation in Dipl\u00f4me d\u2019\u00e9tudes en langue fran\u00e7aise (DELF) testing, which is an internationally-recognized language exam.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Planning Ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">It is highly recommended that students take as many courses in Grades 9 and 10 in French as they can. This helps to facilitate their language development and ensures that students have flexibility in their senior grades to take pre-requisite courses for college or university<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><em>Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR)<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-285 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/almaguin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/11\/french.png\" alt=\"Six levels of foreign language proficiency\" width=\"189\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/almaguin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/11\/french.png 189w, https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/almaguin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/11\/french-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Six levels of foreign language proficiency<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The CEFR describes foreign language proficiency at six levels: A1 and A2, B1 and B2, C1 and C2.
